REPARTO / CAST
The director of the
movie "One Man's Hero" has come out swinging against the distributors of his
film, an historical epic depicting the role of Irish immigrant soldiers in the
Mexican-American War of the 1840s. Controversy has swirled around the production
in recent days with accusations circulating on the internet that MGM dropped the
movie faster than a hot potato because it feels the film is
anti-American.

By: Robyn Barnette MORELOS, MX.—For Mexican entertainment personality Daniela Romo, it was amazing for her to earn a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to act in Hollywood. And the role where she interprets a Mexican war hero named Martha in the upcoming film "One Man's Hero" is as if it had been written especially for her. During an interview in Xochitepec, Morelos, which is one of the many locations where the filming of this movie is taking place, Daniela assured that this is the role of her life. "Since reading the script, I fell in love with the role. It was as if it had been written especially for me. This is the first time that I worked in a foreign production, and it is a way of opening the possibility of making more international movies." The return to the movie screen represents something very significant in her career. "A long time ago I didn't make movies, and this return has been very important. I fell in love with the script, with the role, and with this story." "One Man's Hero," which costs 18 million dollars to make, also features Irish actors, Spaniards and Russians. The film includes locations in Coahuila, Durango, Morelos, and Zacatecas, because the producers of the film had to look for churches and country properties from the time of Santa Ana during the Mexican-American war. "I feel like I'm in the United Nations; there are people of many nationalities, and we have conformed a great work team, although right now it has already begun to feel like nostalgia because this Saturday we finished filming." The leading role that Daniela interprets in this movie was due to chance. "What happened is that the production people came to some offices in Mexico. They saw my photo and asked who I was, what I made, they located me and I proposed this character of which I feel totally identified. I could say that it is a stone in my road." "This role honors many of the Mexican women," Daniela went on to add. "There are many names that have never been mentioned in the story and through historical films like this it consecrates on those that helped in a certain way to the greatness of their village." Of course, "One Man's Hero" features very dangerous scenes, and Daniela didn't want to have any stunt doubles. "There are many scenes that are risky. There is a doctor who had to heal my foot, because I injured it enough upon running down a hill. There was another scene where they grabbed me from my hair in order to get on a horse. Of course, they had the harness and everything. I was also injured when I was bringing several weapons, and a moment arrived where I no longer knew if they were weapons." The movie was already running on schedule, and for that the creators of this film didn't alter their plans. "I already know what dates we are going to film, and for that reason I suspended my presentations in the Boulevard Theater and will continue with them starting from December 26." Daniela mentioned that "One's Man's Hero" was for her. "Everything happened in a precise moment and I believe that it also was the destination, because the historical investigation for the movie took 20 years. There were coincidences for the reason that I am in the movie, and I definitely was meant for the role of Martha." "One Man's Hero" is a co-production of Metro Golden Mayer/United Artists, Televisa and several other production companies from Spain. The movie is directed by Lance Hool, where Daniela Romo shares credits with Joaquim de Almeida, Tom Berenger, Jorge Bozo, Carlos Carrasco and other actors and actresses from Mexico, the United States, and Ireland. It is scheduled to premiere in the United States in May 1998, with its following premiere in Mexico sometime in fall of the same year.
